In Cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme/ MDG Framework project, the Lebanon Family Planning Association (LFPA) organized a training workshop entitled “Empowering pioneer women and developing their capacities”. Funded by “ Senteurs d’Orient”, this workshop took place from 17 to 21 April 2012 at the Association premises in Choueifat.

25 women from Beirut Southern Suburbs, North and South Lebanon participated in this workshop, including members of the Municipal boards, volunteer field workers and employees from concerned ministries, institutions and specialized civil organizations.

Mrs. Najla Bizri, LFPA‘s Executive Director and Mrs. Cecilia Chami, Projects Manager supervised the workshop with the help of Mrs. Nada El Assir, LFPA’s Head of women section.

On Tuesday 17th April, Mrs. Sawsan Husseiny, Head of LFPA, launched the sessions, followed by a speech of Mrs. Nada Sweidan representing the UNDP. Mrs. Bizri explained the purpose and the agenda of the session and its expected impact.

Sessions included theoretical lectures on “equality, equity and empowerment”, “ woman and rural development”, “ Health throughout life cycle”, “ women’s rights in law, legislation and practices” and the “ exclusion of woman from public and political life in her country” .

Participants were divided into groups where they discussed theories and shared their experiences. They attended one session per day, which Dr. Toufic Osseyran, Honorary President of LFPA, contributed in supervising.

Participants elaborated a follow-up plan, where each woman will organize a series of meeting in her town/village to transfer her knowledge to the women living in their villages and identify their needs.

At the end of the workshop, each participant received a participation certificate signed by UNDP and LFPA aiming at highlighting the importance of their participation.
