    UNDP signs partnership agreements in support of democratic governance and rule of law

    Jerusalem - UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed two separate agreements today worth approximately USD 6 million with the Governments of Denmark, Sweden and EUPOL COPPS in an effort to reinforce transparency and democratic governance.

    Norwegian government provides support to UNDP

    The Government of Norway today signed an agreement worth $345,000 with the United Nations Development Programme for its Family Support, Justice and Security Programme. The funding will be used to enhance the capacities of Iraqi civil society organisations to provide legal assistance to vulnerable communities in Iraq, with a particular focus on women and children survivors of gender based violence as well as early and forced marriages. This support will be provided through family protection centres which are being established throughout the country.

    Three hundred thousand Dollars funding from the Swiss Embassy to support the “Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee”

    The UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Marta Ruedas, the Ambassador of the Switzerland in Lebanon, H.E. Ms. Ruth Flint and the LPDC President Me. Maya Majzoub signed an Agreement to support the UNDP project “Support to the Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for a total amount of 300 thousand dollars. The ceremony took place on Friday 26th of November at 9:30am at the Swiss Embassy premises in Ashrafieh (Bourj El Ghazal building, 14th floor).

    New agreement promotes conflict sensitive programming in Iraq’s disputed internal boundaries areas

    UNDP and IOM have signed a Letter of Agreement to undertake work in support of a Peace and Development Analysis, a joint project between UNDP and the Inter-Agency Information and Analysis Unit. The project seeks to understand the context-specific drivers of conflict and relevant development priorities in the Disputed Internal Boundaries (DIBs) areas in northern Iraq. It will provide first-hand information and analysis to ensure that development programming conducted in these areas by UN agencies is sensitive to local needs and priorities.

    UNDP collaborates in workshop aiding the reduction of traffic-related deaths

    The Ministry of Interior is currently hosting a four-day workshop on 'National Traffic and Transport Strategy 2010-2020' at the Holiday Inn Hotel. It's being held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior. The event will coincide with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims which will conclude on November 23rd.

    The governments of India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA), through UNDP inaugurate the first project in the Middle East

    Ramallah – Foreign Ministers of India, Brazil and South Africa inaugurated today a multipurpose new sports centre implemented through UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People. This is the first IBSA project in the Middle East and is a pioneering initiative to enhance cooperation amongst developing countries in the fight against hunger and poverty.

    Central bureau of statistics and UNDP hold a launching event for the preparation of a national strategy for the development of statistics

    Khartoum - Under the auspices of 1st Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, the Central Bureau of Statistics and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched an Event on October 31st, 2011 aimed at setting the stage for the preparation of a National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) for the Republic of Sudan (2012-2016).
