UNDP discusses with governments officials, NGOs and UN agencies recovery and prospects for long term sustainable development in Darfur
El Fasher – During his first visit to Darfur, the newly appointed UNDP Country Director Mr. Sayed Aqa met with the Wali of North Darfur, Mr. Osman Kibir, on October 9 in El Fasher. Mr. Kibir commended the work of UNDP throughout the years, particularly its focus on sustainability and capacity development of state institutions and NGOs in the three Darfur states.

We, the representatives of the States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions, together with representatives from other States present as signatories, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Cluster Munitions Coalition, and other international and national organizations and institutions, gathered for the Second Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions in Beirut, Lebanon, reaffirm our commitment to end the harm caused by cluster munitions, working, “together for a safer life” said the 2011 Beirut Declaration submitted by the President of the Second Meeting of States Parties held in Beirut.

UNDP-ART GOLD Lebanon in partnership with the municipality of Sareen El Fawka, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will inaugurate the newly equipped primary health care center in Sareen Al Fawka at the primary health care center premises on Thursday September 22nd 2011 at 11:30am sharp. The inauguration will be convened in the presence of Mr. Seifeldin Abbaro, UNDP Country Director, the head of the Eastern Baalbeck Federation, in addition to local officials and representatives from the civil society.

After consecutive seasons of inadequate rainfall, countries in the Horn of Africa are facing the worst drought in 60 years – leading to the largest food crisis in 20 years, and the world’s first famine of this century. UNDP is engaged with humanitarian actors in the region as an essential part of the response, addressing underlying factors of livelihoods and governance.

Riyadh, The Solar Arabia Summit sponsored by UNDP which serves as supporting organization and will be hosted by King Saud University during the 23rd and 24th of October 2011. The summit will bring together key policy-makers, government officials, investors and business conglomerates involved in shaping Saudi Arabia's solar energy future. The summit will provide an opportunity to capitalize on the Kingdom's investment of US$100 billion in the solar energy sector and its objective to achieve 5 gigawatts of solar generated power by the year 2020.

Red Sea State first in Sudan to expand role of civil society in budget making and expenditure management
Red Sea State: For the first time in Sudan, a civil society network has been involved in the process of drafting the state budget. To date, the network has expanded community-based budget monitoring to 10 localities in the Red Sea State.

El Fasher – A sensitization programme to disseminate messages on Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Small Arms Control was organized yesterday in El Srief locality, situated 45 kilometers North of El Fasher, North Darfur, by African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC); in active coordination with other relevant UN agencies like UNICEF.
