The two-day meeting of Yemen’s donors 4-5 September has demonstrated the commitment of the international community to support Yemen to overcome current development and humanitarian challenges in addition to ensuring the timely and honest implementation of the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, UN Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator said: “The message from the donors was clear, that Yemen deserves urgent support to ensure a successful transition to a stable nation. Several donors highlighted the humanitarian crisis faced by the country and the need to address it.”

On Tuesday, 4th of September, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, the opening ceremony of the Training of Trainers on the role of local governments in making cities more resilient to disasters was launched at the Grand Serail. This training was organized due to the continuous joint efforts of the United Nations Development Programme, the Prime Minister’s office and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on the subject of disaster risk reduction.

Ramallah, 30 August 2012 - The Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in the presence of the European Union Coordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support (EUPOL COPPS), signed an agreement worth USD 270,000 to enhance anti-corruption efforts and increase citizen’s participation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Sustainable energy for the future UNDP signs an agreement to support the Palestinian solar initiative
The Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority, the Ministry of Planning and Administrative Development and the United Nations Development Programme signed an agreement worth USD 50,000 to support the Palestinian Solar Initiative (PSI). The Initiative addresses social, economic and environmental objectives to tackle poverty and promote sustainable development through an integrated energy solutions model.

UNDP Iraq recently visited the Al-Mussaib power station to commemorate the completion of rehabilitation works on one of the station’s units. The works will now ensure a stable supply of 200 MW of electricity. “The project has been completed just in time to meet the peak of summer demand,” said a relieved Engineer Raheem of the Ministry of Electricity who managed this rehabilitation project which was financed by the United Nations Iraq Trust Fund through a generous contribution by the Government of Japan.
