    UNDP supports the Government of Yemen with formulating a partnership framework with CSOs

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) congratulates the Government of Yemen (GoY) on its remarkable achievement of launching the "Partnership Framework between the Government of Yemen and Civil Society Organizations" during the “Partnership for Development Knowledge Conference” held today at Movenpick Hotel in Sana'a. The partnership framework is part of the Government's commitment to the Mutual Accountability Framework (MAF) approved at Donors Meeting held in Riyadh in September 2012.

    French Government contributes to Yemen’s new voter registry through UNDP's STEP project

    Sana’a - Signaling greater international cooperation for the transitional period and the electoral processes that are its backbone, the United Nations Development Programme and the French Government on Sunday formally signed an agreement that would contribute some US$ 406,620 to Yemen’s new voter registry.

    Swedish and UNDP signed a cost sharing agreement to support transitional justice

    The UNDP's Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen and Mr. Anders Frankenberg, Head of MENA Unit of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) signed a Cost Sharing Agreement through which the SIDA will donate SEK 14,000,000 ($ 2,1 million, approximately) to support the Implementation of Transitional Justice Project in Yemen.

    Quota necessary for a “critical mass” of Arab women parliamentarians

    Algiers – Temporary special measures, including different forms of “quotas,” are still needed in the Arab region to guarantee women’s representation in major legislative and governance bodies, in enough numbers to influence decision making, agreed over 450 participants in the international Conference on “Effective and Sustainable Participation of Women in Elected Assemblies,” which concluded two days of deliberations in Algiers today.

    Building resources in democracy and electoral assistance training on gender and elections

    Signing of a project document to strengthen parliamentary administration capacities in Libya

    The Netherlands enters into an agreement with UNDP to support transitional justice in Yemen

    SANA'A - a cost sharing agreement between the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNDP was signed on 13 November 2013 between Ms. Renate Pors Acting Charge’ d Affair and Head of Development Cooperation at the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy in Yemen and UNDP Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen for an amount of $754,876 to support Transitional Justice Project in Yemen. This contribution will be dedicated for activities related to Civil Society Organizations, raising awareness on transitional justice and outreach.

    New help desk in Baghdad’s oldest court provides free legal assistance to women and most vulnerable

    A new legal help desk in Baghdad’s Rusafa Courthouse was inaugurated after Iraq’s Higher Judicial Council (HJC) partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Iraqi non-governmental organisation Dar Al Khibra to provide free legal services to indigent Iraqi citizens as part of a larger effort to strengthen the administration of and citizens’ access to justice in the country.

    Testing biometric voter registration Kit - The future of elections in Yemen

    SANA’A, Long-considered controversial, outdated and political fractious, the current voter registry is being reformed. The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum, SCER, with technical support from the international community, , is leading a massive and ambitious project to transform the hand-written, and labour-intensive registry process into a biometric voter register that will ensure security and electoral integrity for years to come.

    UNDP receives $15 million for enhancing voter registration in Yemen

    Sana'a - The United Kingdom, Sweden and Japan announced today a contribution of US $15,200,000 in support of the coming voter registration, Referendum and electoral process in Yemen.
