    USD 3 million Contribution from the Government of Norway through UNDP to Support Gaza

    The Government of Norway and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed a USD 3 million (NOK 23,000,000) agreement to fund shelter assistance packages for non-refugees as part of their on-going support to early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

    Al Fakhoora, UNDP, UNICEF and UNRWA to launch USD 40 million project on Education, Reconstruction and Psychosocial Support in Gaza

    During a press conference which took place on 15 February 2015 at Al Shaqab in Doha, Education Above All’s Al Fakhoora programme signed agreements worth USD 40 million with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA) for reconstruction, rehabilitation and psychosocial support projects in the education sector, with a focus on damages occurred in Gaza during last summer’s hostilities.

    Under the Auspices of H.E Prime Minister Al Hamdallah Cornerstone Laying for Khan Younis Waste Water Treatment Plant in Gaza

    Today marked an important step forward for the residents of Khan Younis as they celebrated the cornerstone laying for the construction of Khan Younis Waste Water Treatment Plant in Gaza with officials from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Government of Japan, Palestinian Water Authority, Coastal Municipalities Water Utility, Khan Younis Municipality and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People. The implementation, construction and co-financing of the USD 58 million Plant will be through UNDP with funds from the Government of Japan and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development through the Islamic Development Bank.

    Japan Provides Emergency Funding for Rubble Removal in Gaza through UNDP

    UNDP has been entrusted with a USD 500,000 contribution from the Government of Japan to remove rubble and debris in the Gaza Strip. With the Government of Japan’s contribution, around 30,000 tonnes of rubble will be removed over the period of 10 months, generating approximately 5,400 workdays.

    UNDP Signs USD 10 Million Agreement with USAID for Rubble Removal in Gaza

    UNDP and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a USD 10 million agreement to remove rubble and debris in the Gaza Strip. The USAID contribution will enable UNDP to clear around 65% (649,177 tonnes) of the rubble generated in hard hit areas in Rafah, Khan Younis, Gaza City and northern governorates. The project will be implemented over a period of one year and will generate approximately 116,852 workdays.

    Sweden, through UNDP, to support cash assistance programme for displaced population in Gaza

    Under the Auspices of Prime Minister Al Hamdallah UNDP begins removing rubble in Gaza, with funding from Sweden

    His Excellency Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah witnessed the signature of a USD 3.2 million agreement with the Government of Sweden and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People to begin the removal of rubble and debris in the Gaza Strip.

    UNDP and the Ministry of Labour roll out Cash for Work Programme for affected communities in Gaza

    UNDP and the Ministry of Labour signed agreements with seven non-governmental organizations to partner in the cash for work programme following the 2014 Gaza crisis. Cash assistance worth USD 1 million from UNDP’s own resources will be provided to create 1000 employment opportunities in four sectors; agriculture, education, environment and health.

    UNDP signs USD 10 million agreement with Islamic Development Bank for housing in Gaza

    UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People and the Palestinian Government, represented by the Prime Minister’s office, signed a USD 10 million agreement with the Islamic Development Bank to reconstruct partially damaged housing units in Gaza. Non-refugee families whose homes have been partially damaged during the recent conflict will receive cash assistance to address their accommodation needs.

    UN Secretary General visits UNDP fishermen project in Gaza

    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited one of the UNDP projects that support Gaza fisheries, where he met with Gaza’s sole registered fisherwoman. The project is strengthening livelihoods through the construction of 24 brick huts for 168 fishermen in Gaza’s port to enable them to secure their fishing equipment.

    UNDP boosts legal aid provision to over 40,000 people in the Gaza Strip

    UNDP will provide legal aid services to over 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza who have suffered as a direct result of the 51-day Israeli Operation in July-August 2014. With a USD 530,000 investment, legal aid services will be provided to people who seek legal redress, including legal information, legal advice and mediation, legal and judicial representation, advocacy and policy analysis.

    Announcing the Start of Funding for Shelter in Gaza and Appealing for Additional Support

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced a USD 1 million in funds for shelter support in Gaza at a joint press conference with UNRWA and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. Through this funding, support will be provided to non-refugee families whose houses were damaged or destroyed in order to find alternative accommodation through rental subsidies, repair assistance and cash for work.

    UNDP Announces New Head of Gaza Office

    Mr Nicholas Hercules has been appointed as the new head of the UNDP office in the Gaza Strip. He has served the United Nations over the past twelve years, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN’s Department for Peacekeeping, where his work has focused on crisis recovery and development in challenging environments from Afghanistan to the Balkans and the south Pacific.

    The Netherlands Signs Contribution Agreement to the UNDP/UN Women Joint Programme in Support of the Palestinian Rule of Law Sector

    Funded by The Government of Saudi Arabia UNDP Raffles off 350 Housing Units to Families in Gaza

    With funding from the Government of Saudi Arabia, 350 families are the proud owners of houses handed over to them by UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People in cooperation with the Municipalities of Rafah and Beit Lahia and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. The USD 25 million project has generated over 100,000 workdays for workers in the construction industry at a time when unemployment in the Gaza Strip is over 41 percent.

    UNDP and UN Women sign a USD 29.5 million Agreement with the Palestinian Ministries of Justice and Interior

    In a concerted effort to strengthen the rule of law and improve access to justice across the occupied Palestinian territory, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, UN Women and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed a USD 29.5 million agreement to support the establishment of a viable Palestinian state solidly based on the rule of law, human rights and justice.
