UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) has played a significant role in supporting governance since its inception and presence in the occupied Palestinian territory from 1978. The 2012 UN General Assembly vote to accord the State of Palestine non-member observer status and the formulation of the National Consensus Government in 2014. UNDP’s support in the governance sector is aligned to Palestinian national priorities. It focuses on the respect for the rule of law, access to justice, support to the electoral cycle, local governance and public administration. Equally important is the focus on a strong social contract between the State and its citizens, where inclusion and participation shape a transparent dialogue.
