    UNV Pakistan celebrates International Volunteer Day

    UNV in Pakistan marked the International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2014 in Islamabad on 5 December. The event was jointly organized by UNV Pakistan, UNAIDS and ILO to commemorate the International Volunteer Day and World AIDS Day. The event, held at the ILO auditorium, aimed to recognize the contribution of UN Volunteers and encourage people for volunteerism in Pakistan. It also discussed the needs of legal reframe work on volunteerism by sensitizing the policy makers, local representatives and other key stakeholders through building partnerships.

    Multi-dimensional Poverty Index: concept, measurement and policy relevance

    The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and UNDP jointly organized the Mahbub-ul-Haq memorial lecture at the 30th Annual Conference of the Pakistan Society of Development Economists. The year’s theme is Poverty, Inequality and Economic Growth. The memorial lecture takes place every year in recognition of the work of the renowned economist, Dr. Mahbub-ul-Haq who introduced the concept of human development in the first UNDP Human Development Report (HDR) in 1990. Dr. Sabina Alkire, director, Oxford Policy and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) gave the memorial lecture on the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI). The session was chaired by Marc-André Franche, UNDP Pakistan country director.
