    ECN, Denmark and UNDP sign Cost Sharing Agreement: Election Commission receives additional US$ 2.1m support for voter registration

    A Cost Sharing Agreement was signed today between the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN), the Danish Embassy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the US$ 2.1 million support being provided by the Government of Denmark for the new Voter Registration system. UNDP as the Election Commission?s coordinating partner of the donors will administer the funds through its Electoral Support Project (ESP).

    UNDP Regional Director wraps-up visit to Nepal against backdrop of political uncertainty and ongoing development challenges

    Mr. Ajay Chhibber, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific left today on May 1st 2010 after completing a four-day visit. He was here to gain a first hand sense of the current development situation and exchange views on the relevance of current and future UNDP projects and programmes. While in Nepal, Mr. Chhibber met with the Rt. Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal, the Honourable Minister of Finance, the Honourable Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, other senior officials, international donors and civil society representatives.

    ADB, UNDP sign landmark agreement to enhance reforms in local level governance

    The Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed two Memoranda of Understanding for Administrative Arrangements to support the reform efforts of the Government of Nepal in local level governance. With a total of USD 381,000 from ADB, the two instruments focus on: (i) expanding the outreach of UNDP's ongoing Public Private Partnership for Urban Environment (PPPUE) Programme to four municipalities (i.e., Birganj, Butwal, Dharan and Dhangadhi), and (ii) initiating new methods of supporting service delivery for marginalized groups.

    UNDP/UNFPA Executive Board on field visit to Nepal

    Eight members of the joint Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) from donor and programme countries will be visiting Nepal from 18-25 April. The participating member states are Angola, Azerbaijan, Haiti,Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Sweden and United Republic of Tanzania.

    DFID, UNDP sign US$ 3.2 m MoU to implement national HIV/AIDS in Nepal

    The Department For International Development (DFID) and UNDP have signed US$ 3.2 (' 2.2 m) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue supporting the implementation of the national HIV/AIDS response in Nepal for 2009. With this, DFID's total contribution since 2005 to the national HIV/AIDS response in Nepal amounts to US$13.8m (' 9,400,000).

    UNDP, Government of Nepal sign US$ 1.3 m (Rs. 105 million) National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) to Climate Change

    The Government of Nepal (GoN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on behalf of donors today signed a US$ 1.3m (Rs. 105 million) project for the preparation and implementation of the National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) to climate change. The project is funded by DFID (US$ 875,000), Government of Denmark (US$200,000) and UNDP/Global Environment Facility/Least Developed Country Fund (US$ 250,000) to help the government take leadership on harmonised donor approach to address climate change issues in Nepal.

    UNDP, Royal Norwegian Embassy sign additional US$ 1.5 million (NRs. 114 million) to bring peace dividend to marginalized communities

    The Royal Norwegian Embassy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an additional amount of US$ 1.5 million (NOK 10 million) for the continuation of the Quick Impact for Peace Support Initiative (QIPSI) in 11 eastern Terai and 9 mid and far western districts of Nepal, under the UNDP supported Programme implemented by the Ministry of Local Development (MLD). The agreement was signed by His Excellency, Thor Gislesen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Nepal and UNDP Country Director for Nepal, Ms. Anne-Isabelle Degryse-Blateau.

    The Government of Nepal and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today signed a US$ 2 million project entitled 'Enhancing Access to Justice through Legal and Judicial Reforms Project'. In the presence of the Chief Justice Mr Kedar Prasad Giri, Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nepal, Dr. Ram Krishna Timalsena signed the document on behalf of the Government of Nepal.
