    A “big leap” towards aid transparency in Nepal

    Nepal’s Ministry of Finance launched, on Friday, a public portal on disbursement of foreign aid, hailed by officials and development partners alike as a “big leap” towards aid transparency. The portal is a part of Aid Management platform supported by UNDP and other development partners. It will give public an unprecedented access to detailed information on aid disbursement in Nepal by donor, sector and geographic location.

    UNDP to provide support for credible elections to be held in June

    The nine-month old political deadlock formally ended in Nepal at midnight Wednesday after major parties signed a deal to hold fresh elections for a Constituent Assembly. Those elections will be held on June 21 under the caretaker government led by the country’s Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.

    UNDP, Election Commission sign four-year agreement to carry out electoral reforms

    Today the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN), the European Commission (EC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have embarked on a new partnership to strengthen the foundations of democracy in Nepal. A four year financing agreement was signed between the European Commission and Ministry of Finance to support the Election Commission’s ambitious institutional strengthening reform agenda that is built on its recent successes. A separate project implementation document was also signed between Election Commission and UNDP to implement the reform programme.

    10.19m voters digitally registered

    As of mid February 2012, the signatures, fingerprints and photographs of 10.19 million voters (10,190,689 citizens) have been digitallycaptured. The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) started the nationwide voter registration of all citizens 16 years and above in September 2010 with the support of UNDP Election Support Project (ESP).

    DFID, UNDP sign agreement to bring major election reforms

    The Department for International Development (DFID) and UNDP have signed a cost sharing agreement of US$ 0.59 million for ’Institutional Strengthening and Professional Development Support for the establishment of the Central Data Centre’, to be administered by UNDP Electoral Support Project. This assistance is further going to support the Election Commission of Nepal’s (ECN) ongoing voter registration programme.
