UNDP’s role within the UN Country Team is that of coordination. UNDP provides coordination support to each of the UN agencies, and provides financial assistance to programmes and projects of sister agencies and other development partners.

The UNDP Resident Representative in Namibia, Mr. Musinga Bandora, is also the UN Resident Coordinator provides overall leadership for UN strategic initiatives and the operational framework for development assistance. The Resident Coordinator System in Namibia is composed of nine resident and four non-resident agencies, it supports cross-cutting issues such as donor harmonization, development of joint programmes and disaster risk management. The resident UN agencies are represented by their respective heads of agency in the UN Country Team (UNCT), chaired by the Resident Coordinator. Non-resident agencies supporting development activities in Namibia are invariably represented by the Resident Coordinator.

The Office of the Resident Coordinator (ORC) is responsible for the management and support of the Resident Coordinator System at the country level. The Resident Coordinator System brings together the various UN agencies working in Namibia, including non-resident ones, with the aim to achieve a better focus and enhance the impact of their activities. For this purpose, it promotes a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the needs of recipient countries, under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the designated representative of the Secretary-General for development operations.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) is also present in Namibia. The United Nations Volunteers is the UN organization that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism, including the mobilization of volunteers. It is administered by the United Nations Development Programme.

The effectiveness of the UN Resident Coordinator System is central to providing the highest quality services to programme countries to enable them to speed up MDG progress and achieve sustainable human development.

The UN family recognizes its joint responsibility for a common strategy that defines our programmes and shapes our activities in line with the national development plans in order to support the Government of Namibia. The United Nations Country Team is committed to the achievement of Vision 2030 in the Declaration of Commitment of the United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPAF). Together with the Government, all UN staff, and other stakeholders, the Head of the Agencies are undertaking the implementation of different projects and programmes towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in Namibia.
