    Citizens of Dornod, Uvs aimags now more interested to get insurance for gers and houses

    “For citizens of our aimag, whose gers and houses have high risk to be damaged by fire, low premium insurance service is very important and timely undertaking. So I will not only get insurance for my ger and house but will talk and explain the benefits of insurance to my relatives, neighbors to take insurance services too” said Ts.Baigalmaa, resident of the Kherlen soum of Dornod aimag at the property micro insurance product launching ceremony in Dornod.

    Youth development and civic education: A call for continued collaboration

    Today, the “Youth empowerment through civic education” project implemented by the Centre for Citizenship Education (CCE) organized a workshop to present all its achievements, lessons learned and proposals for future actions to a wide group of stakeholders, including government, civil society, academia and donor organizations. The project is coming to an end in April 2014 (see the Project Annual Progress Report for 2013).

    UNDP projects were presented at the Open Day organized by MoFA

    As it was invited by the Department of International Organization of the MoFA, the Capacity Development for the Micro Insurance Market Project of UNDP together with Financial Regulartory Committee has introduced its activities to the public. The participating individuals were interested about micro insurance services particularly about insurance schemes of the gher, of individual houses. Project staff members have briefed about the micro insurance products and project activities to around 300 individuals and distributed over thousands handout materials and brochures.

    The Mongolia Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Dialogue

    The Mongolia National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Dialogue was held in UN House on 20-21 March 2014. The LGBT Dialogue was attended by over 80 representatives of various stakeholders, including Government officials, LGBT human rights advocates, civil society activists, researchers and academics. The Dialogue is being organized as part of the regional ‘Being LGBT in Asia’ initiative being undertaken by UNDP Asia-Pacific Regional Centre and USAID Regional Development Mission Asia, both based in Bangkok, Thailand.

    The First Ever Induction Training for All Local Elected Representatives

    The 3-day Induction training for all local elected representatives started on 17 February 2014 in Bulgan, Dundgobi and Dornod aimags. The training is being organized by aimag council (hural) secretariats under the project “Capacity Strengthening of Local Self-Governing Bodies”. A total of over 900 elected representatives of these 3 aimags are attending the training, which covers seven key topics: Legal environment, hural procedures, public participation, human rights and gender, and environment and green development.

    International Think Tank for Land Locked Development Countries's activity commenced in Mongolia

    Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Bold and UNDP Permanent Representative to Mongolia Sezin Sinanoglu signed a project document for commencing activity of the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries to be carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia in association with UN Development Program.

    The Report took over a year of research, consultations, writing, re-writing and writing again by a handful of very dedicated people to finish. I would like to sincerely thank all of them for their great work! Among them, I would like to especially acknowledge the team in the Ministry of Economic Development who took the lead and pushed the process through. It was not an easy one but the result is obvious: a good quality Report, with figures and analysis that we can all stand by.

    Insurance enrollment rates are increased as people understand its importance

    nsurance is a primary tool for the prevention of various contingencies that life can throw at us, as well as sharing of damages and losses that can incur should an incidence of natural disaster or any other unforeseen circumstance occur. Therefore, awareness raising becomes of utmost importance, so that the population understands the importance of having insurance policies. One such awareness-raising exercise has been “Insurance in Our Lives” workshop organized in Dornod aimag.

    Mongolia has achieved significant economic growth. We can see improvements in the lives and livelihoods of many people around the country. Child and maternal mortality rates and school enrolment, for example, have shown great progress. Roads, homes and schools are being built and the country is much more prosperous than before.

    Investigation agencies renewed their commitment to end torture

    Five agencies with investigation powers, State Investigation Department, Investigation Division of the General Prosecutor’s Office, General Court Decision Enforcement Agency, Independent Authority against Corruption, and General Intelligence Agency, held a discussion “Cooperation in Prevention from Torture” in the Government House. Heads of investigation departments of aimags attended the meeting.
