The EU-UNDP Support for Confidence Building Measures Programme has selected 8 more joint initiatives of the civil society from both sides of the Nistru River, which will benefit from financial support as a result of the third Grant Competition.

The 8 winning projects come up with joint solutions for problems encountered by people from both sides in the following areas: access to quality social services, art and culture, social integration of persons with disabilities, sustainable development of rural localities, promotion of children’s rights, supporting youth and women in their professional development, etc. The selected projects will be implemented through partnerships of NGOs from both sides of the Nistru River, by the end of 2014, benefiting from grants amounting up to 35 thousand USD each, as well as technical and logistical assistance from the EU-UNDP Programme.

The projects were selected out of 75 joint initiatives submitted by the civil society within the Grant Competition. The Evaluation Committee, composed of representatives from donor organizations, has selected the best proposals based on a set of pre-established and objective criteria. The winning NGOs include Demos, Filocalia, International Center for Women Promotion in Business, Keystone, ICOM Moldova, Association of Deaf Children, Legal Assistance Center for Persons with Disabilities, National Center for Preventing Abuse against Children. The full list of the winning NGOs is available on UNDP Moldova webpage: http://www.undp.md/tenders/archive2013-onepage.shtml under EoI13/00670

“The big number of submitted proposals shows that there is a huge potential for joint activities involving civil society from both sides of the Nistru River. We are glad that we can provide people from this region the possibility to settle together their problems, which actually are similar for Tiraspol and Chisinau. We are more and more convinced that through joint efforts, exchange of experience and good practices, people on both sides can improve considerably the quality of their lives”, stated Doina Munteanu, Programme Specialist, UNDP Moldova.

The EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme has also announced the launch of a new Grant Competition for the initiatives of the civil society from both sides of the Nistru River. The fourth round of the Grant Competition will provide grants for a value up to USD 50,000 for one-year projects, coming up with innovative solutions benefiting inhabitants of both sides of the Nistru River and improving their livelihoods. The deadline for submitting project concepts is January 20, 2014, 16.00. The Application Guidelines and the eligibility criteria for the fourth round of the Grant Competition are available on UNDP Moldova webpage: http://www.undp.md/tenders/details/738/.
Since 2012, a total of 22 joint initiatives were supported through the EU-UNDP Support for Confidence Building Measures Programme, of which 10 projects are still on-going. The total budget of these 30 projects accounts for 1.3 million USD.

The Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme supports local public authorities, civil society, businessmen and other stakeholders from both sides of the Nistru River to carry out joint activities in five key areas: business development, civil society development, social infrastructure renovation, healthcare and environment protection.

The Programme is implemented by UNDP Moldova during 2012-2015, with a total budget of 10,600,000 Euro, granted by the European Union (9,500,000 Euro) and UNDP (1,100,000 Euro).
