    Strengthened Capacities, Effective Institutions critical for successful implementation of post-2015 development agenda

    The Global Dialogue on strengthening capacities and building effective institutions concludes with call to bolster more effective and responsive governance to achieve SDGs. The Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany hosted a two day high-level meeting in Chisinau, Moldova to discuss ways and means of upgrading capacities of institutions to achieve the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    The Molovata Noua Family Doctor’s Office has been reconstructed with European funds

    About 4 thousands people on both banks of the Nistru River can now enjoy better medical services with the modernization of the Family Doctor’s Office in the village of Molovata Nouă, Dubăsari district. The Office has been inaugurated today after a reconstruction carried out with European funds within the framework of the EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme.

    The first inter-municipal cooperation model is implemented in ATU Gagauzia

    Three Gagauzian municipalities – Congaz, Cotovscoe and Chioselia Rusă - have for the first time ever launched a joint public utilities company, aiming to provide a wide range of local communal service: garbage collection, roads maintenance, snow removal, public lighting and administration of water and sewerage systems.

    Applying design thinking tools and techniques for public services reengineering

    Approximatively 27 public servants, involved in reengineering of public services, participated in a workshop organised by MiLab – Moldova Innovation Lab, with the support of State Chancellery and with the experts of MindLab - Danish cross governmental innovation unit. MiLab, established by UNDP Moldova and E-Government Centre, acts as a multilateral platform serving to engage different actors from public, private and non-profit domains to seek and experiment with innovative approaches to the society’s problems.

    Pupils and teachers discussed solutions to break the corruption chain in the education system

    On December 9, the International Anticorruption Day which is marked annually on December 9, young people and teachers from 22 high-schools from the Republic of Moldova got together in Chisinau to identify ways of fighting negative phenomena that generate corruption in schools, such as informal payments, favoritism, plagiarism, cheating, and absenteeism. Assisted by several youth and students’ organizations – the National Youth Council, the Y-Peer Network, the Foundation for Advancement of Moldova, they used innovative tools such as thematic games, social theater and others to formulate their ideas and solutions on fighting corruption in the education system.

    Green Energy Sector Champions awarded at Moldova Eco-Energetica 2014 Ceremony

    More than one thousand promoters of renewables and energy efficiency got together at Moldova Eco-Energetica ceremony today to celebrate the remarkable achievements and award the Champions of the Green Energy Sector in 2014. A total of 14 successful projects in using and promoting green energy and energy efficiency, 5 companies developing eco-responsible technologies have been handed trophies while one eco-responsible project idea receiving funding from a commercial bank with the Government being the guarantor for the transaction.

    New modern and standardized electoral equipment to make elections in Moldova more inclusive

    The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has for the first time standardized electoral equipment for polling stations for the parliamentary elections of 30 November. CEC organized today a presentation of new materials and equipment purchased from funds provided by Moldova and the Government of Norway within UNDP’s Moldova Democracy Programme. The total cost of the equipment which includes 6,940 secret voting booths and 10,000 ballot boxes and other election materials, including for people with special needs, is US$ 436.270.

    EU-supported restoration of degraded pastures in Orhei National Park will help improve people's lives in the region

    Mayors of 12 municipalities of the Orhei National Park signed today grant agreements for projects aimed at restoring unproductive pastures on 35 sectors with a total area of 472 ha. The total amount of grants, provided in the framework of the Clima-East project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is 185.110 Euro.

    EU-supported civil society initiatives helped improve the lives of over 14,000 people on both banks on the Nistru River

    European Union provided more than 1.3 million Euro over the past two years for joint initiatives of civil society organizations on both banks of the Nistru River which helped improve the lives of more than 14,000 people. The data was presented today in the largest conference which brought together NGOs from both banks of the Nistru, organized by the EU-UNDP “Support Confidence Building Measures” Programme.

    Better interaction between Parliament and people is key for democracy in Moldova

    The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova launched today its fourth constituency office which aims to foster better interaction and communication between MPs and people from various regions of the country. Earlier, with the support of UNDP’s Moldova Democracy Programme, funded by the Government of Sweden, similar offices have been opened in Comrat, Edineț și Leova.
