The Small Island Developing States - Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change Programme- Call for Concept Notes

13 Jan 2014

UNDP Maldives calls for interested parties to submit concept papers for the Small Island Developing States Community-Based Adaptation programme (SIDS CBA) grants.

Funded by AusAID, the Small Island Developing States Community-Based Adaptation programme (SIDS CBA) aims to enhance the resilience of communities to address climate change impacts, and conserve natural resources and ecosystems to preserve livelihoods. The programme was designed to put into practice, pilot and create widespread interest for community-based projects to address climate change impacts.

SIDS CBA for Maldives will target two priority areas for adaptation action to cope with the effects of climate change: 1. Coastal zone and beaches and 2. Fresh water resources. Through small grants, the programme will support (i) community level approaches, (ii) communicating and sharing knowledge, (iii) improving good practices, and (iv) identifying and targeting activities which will improve adaptive abilities of communities and ecosystems in coping with climate change.

Grants will be made directly to civil society organizations (CSOs) with priority for national and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs). The maximum grant amount per project is US $ 50,000 for a duration of up to 24 months.

As a first step in the application process for these grants, UNDP Maldives calls for interested parties to submit concept papers.

For successful concepts, the CBA will be able to provide a small planning grant after a concept paper has been accepted.  These Planning Grants are intended to help turn a concept into a full proposal. They can be used to fund community consultations and processes, undertake vulnerability reduction assessments, obtain baseline information and other costs of project development.

Deadline for the submission of concept paper is 30 January 2014.
