Poverty Reduction

Breaking the cycle of poverty in Lao PDR and graduating from the Least Developed Country (LDC) Status by 2020 represents the heart of the Government’s development aspirations. UNDP has a key role in assisting the country with a smooth transition to non-LDC status, as well as the complex process to strategically raise needed funds for programs that benefit poor people.

Our Goals

We work toward achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the 7th National Socio-Economic Development Plan 2011-2015 and, more broadly, Lao PDR’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status, through comprehensive assistance to the Ministry of Planning and Investment. This assistance will help the Government to access funding that may not otherwise have been available and to address emerging development issues through better targeted actions to serve people in need. more

    Development Partners Share Outcomes of 11th High Level Round Table Meeting With the President

    Vientiane, 20 November 2013 – Heads of key Development Partner delegations were led by H.E Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to brief H.E. Mr. Choummaly Xayasone, President of Lao PDR, on the results of the 11th High Level Round Table Meeting (HL RTM) held on 19 November 2013, which featured what they called “a very interactive, frank and fruitful discussion.” more
