    New York — The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations held a joint event today to share views on the country’s sustainable development strategy and the progress made in the last three years on democratization, peace building and rule of law.     Programme Board of the UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative Approved Results of the Initiative’s Work in 2013

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – On September 26 in conference-hall of the Ministry of Economy the third enlarged meeting of the Programme Board of the UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI) with participation of PEI Global and Regional teams from Nairobi, Geneva and Bratislava was held. Participants of the meeting several documents on strategic planning with focus on issues of poverty and environment. Moreover new members joined the board, which now includes not only representatives of the key ministries and agencies, but also NGOs and private sector.

    Further implementation of the Poverty-Environment Initiative will focus on gender equality and human rights

    Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan – A workshop on planning activities for the period of 2014-2017 as part of The UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative. In the upcoming years, the initiative activities will focus on gender and human rights aspects. The experts and other workshop participants had jointly discussed the issues related to promotion of this Initiative in Kyrgyzstan and interaction between the expert and inter-ministerial task forces. The two-day workshop was attended by the members of inter-ministerial task forces comprised of key ministries and employees, heads of village administrations of pilot villages, NGOs, representatives of UN agencies, as well as global and regional Poverty-Environment Initiative team from Nairobi, Bratislava and Geneva.

    A New 2013-2017 Local Self-Governance Development Strategy Discussed in Bishkek

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek hosted a discussion of the new Local Self-Governance Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2013-2017. Members of Parliament, representatives of local self-governance bodies (LSG), civil society and mass media shared their opinions on the new strategy aimed at making LSG more sustainable, transparent and accountable, as well as at improving the quality of delivered services.

    Human Development as the Focus of Local Self-Government: HERE AND NOW!

    The level of human development in the Kyrgyz Republic is largely dependent on the development of local self-government (LSG) It is at the local self-government level the most important basic services that create an environment for human development are provided. Here a person receives primary and secondary education, which largely determines his future. Here are opened or not opened opportunities for personal development. These ideas are reflected in the National Human Development Report published by the United Nations Development Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic. "The report explores interrelations between concepts of local self-governance and human development" notes the preface to the 2012 report. "This is an important finding of authors that explicitly show that in the center of local self-government is a human being with his or her personal needs and development opportunities."

    Draft Third MDG Progress Report was Discussed in Bishkek

    Discussion of the draft third report on progress in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Kyrgyz Republic took place in Bishkek. The third report focuses on strengthening approaches for better and full consideration of opinions from interested parties, i.e. representatives from ministries, state departments, UN agencies, who worked jointly on Report’s Sections.

    E-Leadership Week Launched in Bishkek

    Kyrgyz Republic Government and UNDP launched the E-Leadership Week in Bishkek which will take place from 3 June to 9 June 2013. During the week members of the government, expert community, international organizations as well as representatives of best practice countries will discuss the prospects for promoting E-Governments and E-Governance in the country. The issues related to E-Governance implementation in Kyrgyzstan along with the achieved progress will be addressed during the scheduled events.
