The Convention has inspired new national laws, helped put in place important protection mechanisms and raised awareness about the needs and rights of victims.     KazAID project signed

    The project has a goal of supporting Kazakhstan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry in forming the system of Official Development Assistance (ODA). By providing expert support the project will produce analysis of the best international practice and ODA situation from other beginning donors and will identify common challenges and problems. It will also explore efficient solutions to them.

    The issues of an effective interaction of governmental authorities, public organizations and the population in the interest of regional development will be discussed in the East Kazakhstan region.

    The aim of the seminar is to present the new interaction approaches of akimats, maslikhat and the population for addressing social problems in rural districts using the example of the pilot districts of EKR under the component of local self-government. During the workshop, the activities and results of the Joint Programme (economic component) for 2013- Q1 2014 will be introduced to 50 participants, including members of district maslikhats, akims of rural districts, representatives of online centers of EKR, the management of the Regional Library named after A.S. Pushkin and the representatives of the Regional Libraries of Mangystau and Kyzylorda regions. The workshop participants will explore the practice of piloting the model "Budgets of District Development”, results of the projects on introduction of energy efficient technologies in schools, the role of online-centers, the involvement of NGOs and civil society in regional development issues for further implementation in their respective areas.

    Meeting at KAZGUU Academic Diplomatic Club on UN Day

    UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Stephen Tull told students about the history of the creation of the United Nations Organisation, addressed the events of World War II which had given impetus to the creation of the UN and reminded that under changing conditions of the fast-developing world the UN changes, too by trying to faster respond to different crises.

    MFA in RK hosts Meeting Dedicated to UN Day

    Ahead of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations in 2015 Mr. Stephen Tull recalled of what the world had been like seventy years ago and what had given impetus to the formation of the UN as an organisation. In his speech Mr. Tull reminded the meeting participants of the events in October 1944 when the entire world realized the need to create an international organisation capable of withstanding challenges of war and the relating atrocities.

    Almaty was suggested to change the approach to urban development and planning of city infrastructure

    International event on the subject, which is still just beginning to gain popularity in the local public discussions – the Conference on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) was held in Almaty on October 18, in the hall of Grand Ball room, Intercontinental Hotel. The conference was organized by United Nations Development Programme and Global Environment Facility GEF Project "City of Almaty Sustainable transport", together with Akimat of Almaty.

    United Nations Day is Marked with Concert

    Throughout October Kazakhstan hosts a range of events to commemorate this occasion. One of them was a concert at Tilep Kobyz Saraiy on 23 October. UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Stephen Tull made a speech at the event. The concert featured Goodwill Ambassador of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Kazakhstan, singer Aidos Sagat and Kok Turikter (The Sky Turks) folklore-ethnographic ensemble.

    Universal Periodic Review outcomes for Kazakhstan

    At the peer review the states commended Kazakhstan for is efforts to promote, protect and fulfill human right and made several recommendations relating to elimination violence against women and trafficking-in-persons, strengthening its National Human Rights Institution (Office of the Ombudsman), establishing the institution of the Ombudsman on Child’s Rights.

    The events were co-organised jointly with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia and Public Foundation International Legal Reform Almaty. The trainings were organised on 13-14 October in Aktau and 20-21 October in Kyzylorda.

    The briefing was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions of 37 countries and six international organizations, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption Mr. Akhmetzhanov, Chancellor of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Abdrassilov and the Director of Administration and Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Sarzhanov.
