What We Do

United National Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development agency, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 177 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

Our Goals

World leaders have pledged to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. Today our focus is helping country build and share solutions to the challenges of Democratic Governance, Energy and Environment and Inclusive Development.

    A few years ago 14-year-old Arman dreaded going to physical-education classes at Public School Number 9 in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana.It wasn’t that Arman disliked sports. Strengthening of the Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities and Development of the Special Social Services Provision System

The focus of the project is to mainstream disability issues across public institutions and promote the process of signing and ratification of the International Convention on the Right of Persons with disabilities and its Optional Protocol in Kazakhstan. more

City Almaty Sustainable Transport

A significant share of transport emissions is associated with ground transportation in the former capital city of Almaty, the largest and most densely populated city in the country with a population of 1.6 million. The objective of the "Sustainable Transport Almaty City" is to reduce the growth of the transport-related greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Almaty, while simultaneously improving urban environmental conditions. more

Steppe Conservation and Management

Kazakhstani steppe ecosystems include unique plant species and communities and many globally endangered steppe fauna species. However, steppes remain the least protected ecosystems in Kazakhstan. The goal of the project “Steppe Conservation and Management ” is to preserve globally significant biodiversity of Kazakh steppes through the establishment of specially protected areas. more

Expert support for implementation of the Concept of a new model of public service of the Republic of Kazakhstan

A project “Expert support for implementation of the Concept of a new model of public service of the Republic of Kazakhstan” implemented jointly with the Republic of Kazakhstan Agency of Civil Service Affairs, aims to systematize and institutionalize knowledge and experience in the field of public administration and the civil service. In framework of the project the Regional hub of civil service was established, which will become an international center for the continuous exchange of information between the countries of the region. more

About Programme

The programme is targeted to improve the quality of life of the population, and advance progress towards MDG achievement in East Kazakhstan oblast, in particular in the districts severely hit by nuclear tests at the former Semey nuclear site.
