Introduction


Demonstration of the work of a repair workshop for wheelchairs

The focus of the project is to mainstream disability issues across public institutions and promote the process of signing and ratification of the International Convention on the Right of Persons with disabilities and its Optional Protocol in Kazakhstan. The project intends to facilitate disability mainstreaming by empowering of policy makers and civil society with knowledge of disability situation in the country and preparedness of Kazakhstan for ratification of the Convention and its protocol with concrete recommendations for improvement of the legislative, institutional, policy and services areas.

Accomplishments

The project is working closely with Government of Kazakhstan and Ministry of Labour on developing and implementing the action plan to promote the ratification and subsequent implementation of the Convention. Also in frame of the project three day centers for people with disabilities in the different regions of Kazakhstan received funding. Due to massive flashmobs and promo actions public awareness on disability issues increases gradually.
