UNDP and Ruwwad Micro-Venture Fund (RMVF) organized a graduation ceremony at the Greater Municipality Hall in Mafraq, for 60 trainees who successfully completed the first two rounds of “Planning your own Small Business” Training Workshops, as part of the “Mitigating the Impact of the Syrian Refugee Crisis on the Jordanian Host Communities" Project.

Implemented by UNDP in collaboration with the Government of Jordan, the Project supports targeted governorates affected by the burden of the Syrian crisis in order to deliver basic services and address unemployment. The Project, funded by the Government of Japan, focuses on vocational training and job creation in underprivileged communities, amongst other activities supporting local development in Northern governorates.

The training workshops, organized in partnership with RMVF, were launched on 26 October 2013 to help participants seeking employment develop entrepreneurship skills through demand-driven workshops. The attendees were given professional training on marketing, accounting, financial planning and communication to foster their entrepreneurial skills during a five-day course delivered by Beyond Excellence Training & Consulting.

Youth and female homemakers among other participants developed their ideas into business plans prior to submitting them to UNDP and RMVF for evaluation. 15 selected candidates will each receive technical support as well as grants in the amount of 6000 JD to establish and operate their own microbusiness. Encouraging such entrepreneurial initiatives will increase the prospect of income generation in the Host Communities, which is one of main goals of the Project.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al Khattab, Governor of Mafraq, Mr. Norimasa Yoshida, The Head of the Economic Section at the Japanese Embassy, Mr. Ghassan Elkahout, representing UNDP, and Mr. Ibrahim Majali, representing RMVF.
