Over 2,500 attendees include heads of state and UN organizations, representatives from national and local government, private sector, and NGOs, scientists and practitioners.

The Global Platform is organized by UNISDR, the UN′s office for disaster risk reduction and secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.

The Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction aims to continue the momentum of the prior Global Platform meetings (2007, 2009 and 2011), into a sustained effort from all actors to take responsibility in reducing risks and reinforcing resilience in our communities. The Fourth Session will also be an opportunity to progress and consult on the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) - building the resilience of nations and communities to disaster (2005-2015) and prepare for HFA 2 - a post-2015 framework.
