Democratic Governance

The United Nations Development Programme, in line with the National Development Plan of Iraq, supports efforts to improve the country’s governance and thereby improve the quality of life for all men, women and children in Iraq. Drawing from its on-the-ground experience in over 180 countries, UNDP in Iraq utilises its extensive expertise to help Iraqis strengthen participatory processes, increase political equity, enhance institutional accountability and increase access to justice in their country.

Our Goals

UNDP’s Democratic Governance work focuses on development that responds to the needs of all Iraqi citizens, including the poor. Through these programmes UNDP in Iraq aims to promote participation, accountability and transparency at all levels and build effective and capable Iraqi institutions that are accountable, transparent, inclusive and responsive. more

Support to elections

UNDP Iraq train staff on out-of-country voting procedures. UNDP works closely with the Iraq Electoral Management Body (EMB), providing policy and legal advice as well as technical support.
