• Captain Suraksha

The film tells us how schools in India can build, plan and mange disaster events by following simple actions for preparedness and safety in their own schools.

  • When Disaster Strikes - The Story of Samiyarpettai

This film was shot a few months after tsunami struck parts of southern India on 26 December 2004. It is based on community-based training approaches piloted in Samiyarpettai, a ‘model’ village identified in Tamil Nadu under the Government of India–UNDP National Disaster Risk Management Programme. This village reported fewer deaths than other villages because of the training received by the local communities in rescue and evacuation, survival skills and safety techniques, first aid and other such areas.

OUR WORK - CRISIS PREVENTION AND RECOVERY

UNDP's Disaster Risk Reduction Programme supports the vision of India’s 11th Five-Year Plan to work towards ensuring that the "most vulnerable, including women and girls and government at all levels have enhanced abilities to prepare, respond, adapt to and recover from sudden and slow-on-set disasters and environmental changes."
