UNDP is committed to promoting low carbon, climate resilient and inclusive development. We support the Government of India in meeting national development objectives along with commitments under important multilateral environment agreements. Key areas of intervention are climate change (mitigation and adaptation), sustainable natural resource management (conserving biodiversity and addressing land degradation) and integrated chemical management (phasing out of ozone depleting substances and reducing persistent organic pollutants).

Access to Clean Energy (2009-2012)

In partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, the project aims to improve access of villagers to clean and renewable energy in remote un-electrified villages in selected districts of seven United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) states. more

Capacity Building for Addressing Climate Change (2010-2012)

To address climate change, it is imperative that the national-level policy initiatives such as the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) are translated and adapted to state/sub-national levels. In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, this project aims to strengthen the capacities of the government and other stakeholders to address climate change issues at the national and sub-national levels. more

Energy Conservation in Small Sector Tea Processing Units in South India (2008-2012)

In partnership with the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, the project aims to introduce energy conservation measures in the firewood intensive tea sector in south India by addressing information, technology and financial barriers that stand in the way of greater adoption of energy conservation technologies and practices. more
