    To strengthen the capacity of community response groups to undertake rescue operations during disasters, a ten-day training programme on Search and Rescue and First Aid was imparted to the volunteers of different districts of Assam.

  • School Safety Initiatives in Kolhapur

    The film highlights school safety initiatives undertaken as part of the GoI-UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme in Kolhapur district of Lucknow. It gives an overview of major disasters like the Gujarat earthquake, where several school buildings were destroyed due to weak structures. School safety initiatives like preparation of school disaster management plans, conducting regular mock drills, teachers training programmes and structural measures are some of the components covered in the film.

  • When Disaster Strikes - The Story of Samiyarpettai

    This film was shot a few months after tsunami struck parts of southern India on 26 December 2004. It is based on community-based training approaches piloted in Samiyarpettai, a ‘model’ village identified in Tamil Nadu under the Government of India–UNDP National Disaster Risk Management Programme. This village reported fewer deaths than other villages because of the training received by the local communities in rescue and evacuation, survival skills and safety techniques, first aid and other such areas.
