Building knowledge, skills and the aptitude of communities on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) issues is crucial for promoting disaster resilience. Significant efforts were made in this direction at the national as well as the state level during the implementation of the GoI-UNDP DRM Programme (2002-2009). The Disaster Risk Reduction Programme was formulated in 2009 on the basis of the foundation laid by the DRM Programme, national DRR priorities articulated in the National Disaster Management Act (2005) as well as in the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
Under the GoI-UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, efforts have been made to generate awareness on various aspects of Disaster Risk Reduction through use of multiple modes of communication and adopting a multi-hazard approach. Addressing the specific requirements of vulnerable regions and the risk mitigation and preparedness needs of identified communities, various IEC material like posters, leaflets, banners, training modules, audio visual material, films, radio jingles have been produced at the national, state, district and city levels. The aim is to develop a large body of advocacy and awareness materials, especially in vernacular languages, to deliver the message to the communities in their local languages addressing their sensibilities as well as targeting vulnerable groups such as women, children, elderly, differently abled, marginalized and excluded groups.
In order to provide easy access to a variety of IEC materials developed and used at various level in the country, all the knowledge material available on Disaster Risk Reduction are being collated. These are being stored on a one stop shop for easy use and reference.
The material has been consolidated thematically and can be downloaded and reprinted in vernacular languages (with due acknowledgement to the source) for use by DRR practioners/organization across the country.
