What is the Project About

Despite watershed development over the last decade, unsustainable land management practices have been both cause and consequence of the livelihoods’ crisis of tribal and rural communities in Madhya Pradesh. The project, in partnership with the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, aims to remove barriers to promoting sustainable rural livelihoods, and provide a broader range of livelihood options for the tribal/rural poor.

  • Increase in incomes of 800 families that treat 7,400 hectares of degraded bamboo forests

  • Improved protection and management of forests through greater community involvement

  • Recharge of groundwater and improvements in soil moisture through construction of micro check dams in Ambada and Tamiya ranges of south and west Chhindwara forest divisions
