What is the Project About

In partnership with the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the project aims to demonstrate mechanisms for the effective management of electricity at the district and community levels and to support activities to enhance electricity service delivery in the states of Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

What Have We Accomplished So Far

What Have We Accomplished So Far
  • Nine community-based organizations and NGOs have entered into agreements with DISCOM (Distribution Company) through commercial agreements as Rural Power Distribution Franchisee

  • Introduced energy efficiency measures in gram panchayats resulting in a 35 percent reduction in electricity consumption from the baseline: –

    • 3,700 incandescent bulbs replaced with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) and 1,500 mechanical fan regulators replaced with electronic regulators in 991 households and community spaces in five villages in Balasore district. This has resulted in reduction of electricity bill from INR 130 to 90 per month per household

    • 200 streetlights with dusk to dawn sensors installed with 22 W CFLs in five villages, replacing 74 bulbs of 100 W each

  • Strengthened capacity of stakeholders to effectively leverage DDG, a government scheme aimed at utilizing renewable energy to electrify remote rural areas. The initiatives have led to preparation of 33 detailed project reports (DPRs) in Chhattisgarh and five in Orissa

  • Expansion of the definitions of rural electrification to include street lighting under RGGVY in the draft 12th Five-Year Plan

  • Strong partnerships with Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency, Government of Orissa, Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency, Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited, Orissa Discoms, Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency, Feedback Infrastructure Services Pvt. Ltd, Centre for Environment Education, ABPS Infrastructure Advisory Pvt. Ltd
