International Year of Volunteers (IYV) +10 India Campaign

Last year, 2011, marked 10 years since the International Year of Volunteers and the United Nations called for this anniversary to be marked across the planet with UNV as the Focal point. Actions culminated on 5 December 2011 with the UN General Assembly session on volunteering and the launch of the first-ever State of the World Volunteerism Report in New York and about 80 countries around the world.

The UNV team utilized this important opportunity to galvanize volunteerism in India and focused on the key objectives of IYV+10: Recognition, Facilitation, Networking, and Promotion of volunteerism in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Planning Commission, with support from UNDP.

More than thirty organizations joined hands to mark IYV+10 through campaigns, seminars and workshops, awards, competitions and other promotional activities. More than 100 million people were reached and around 50.5 million volunteers were mobilized. The scale and outreach of these joint efforts were highlighted in the national media , UNDP , UNIC and UNV HQ communication channels.
