Food Security and Rural Development

Hunger and malnutrition continue to be problems in DPRK.In the past, UNDP concentrated on increasing grain production. Today, the focus is on diversifying agriculture (such as vegetables and alternative grain production) to help meet DPRK’s food security needs. Interventions will include small-scale agro-processing demonstration projects in rural areas, which will help to create more such units, improve the availability of nutritious food and generate employment opportunities for men and women.

Our Goals

  • To design and implement projects in support of seed multiplication (improved quality and variety) at the farm level; provide appropriate skills to increase productivity and food availability in an ecologically-sustainable manner, and also improve rural livelihoods.

  • To enhance post-harvest management at the farm level through training of farmers; introduction and promotion of improved post-harvest methods.
