    Benefit concert supports solar power at Kaštela school

    As a part of a campaign to build a solar power plant for the Ostrog elementary school in Kaštel Lukšić, the Kaštela Energy Cooperative and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are organizing a “Solar Concert” to take place on 17 January 2014 at the sports centre in Kaštel Stari starting at 20.00.

    Protected Dinaride area – potential for the development of the mountain tourism

    United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Croatia presented its findings of the field visit to the Dinaride mountain chain within the project „Walking the Via Dinarica“ which passed through Croatia from 28 September - 10 October. During the walk, the mountaneering team visited Plitvice Lakes, and the mountains of Biokovo, Mosor, Promina, Dinara, Velebit, Kapela, Risnjak and Snježnik. The goal of the project is to promote the development of tourism potential and contribute to the rural development of the Dinarides, one of the most beautiful parts of the mountainous nature Croatia can offer to adventurous and other visitors.

    Croatian primary school seeks energy independence through crowdfunding

    United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Kaštela Energy Cooperative are starting a crowd-funding campaign through which they will collect donations to make Primary School Ostrog from Kaštel Lukšić - known for its botanical garden, one of the most beautiful school gardens in Croatia - an energy independent school. The School is also co-founder of the Kaštela Energy Cooperative.

    Energy independent islands with zero carbon emission

    What are some of the ways Croatian islands can turn towards sustainable energy resources? How can citizens become actively engagedin cooperatives? Howcan the capital reserved for conserving nature be included into the development of a local economy? All these questions are being addressed during the three-day conference 100% Renewable Energy Island—the Importance of Including Citizens through Energy Cooperatives, which is held on Krk island from October 17-19. The conference was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with the German Foundation Heinrich Böll, the Croatian company Ponikve d.o.o and Energy Cooperative Otok Krk, and supported by the European Project RESCOOP 20-20-20.

    Varaždin County recognizes UNDP and Energy Efficiency project

    During the 7th annual Lifelong Learning Week*, in the Varaždin County palace, UNDP’s project “Encouraging Energy Efficiency in Croatia” was awarded a certificate of appreciation from Varaždin County. The award was received by the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Louisa Vinton, as well as the Project Coordinator for Energy Efficiency, Mladen Antolić. During the occasion 96 participants in the energy consultants’ course also received their diplomas.

    'Walking the Via Dinarica' expedition climbes on top of Dinara and reaches Paklenica

    "Walking the Via Dinarica," began in August in Albania and continued over high mountain ranges of the Dinarides, crossed half of the planned route through Croatia, and today continues its journey from National Park Paklenica. Because the expedition is part of a regional project which aims to promote rural development of the Dinarides, it is jointly led by the Adventure Tourism Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ATA BiH), the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The expedition's implementing partner in Croatia is the Mountain Guide Station Zagreb.

    The successful three-month long expedition led by the famous alpinist Kenan Muftić and photographer Elma Okić, "Walking the Via Dinarica," began in August in Albania and continued over high mountain ranges of the Dinarides, arriving today at Plitvice Lakes National Park, thus beginning it's journey through Croatia.     Croatian public sector makes millions in cost savings due to implementation of EE projects

    Gallery Klović (Klovićevi Dvori) was host to today’s closing ceremony of the project Encouraging Energy Efficiency in Croatia (EE Project), which was present during the past eight years in state, regional and local authorities This occasion observed a ceremonial transfer of the project activities in the public sector, in accordance with the agreement between United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, the Agency for Transactions and Mediation in Immovable Properties, as well as the Fund for Protection of the Environment and Energy Efficiency.

    UNDP and partners provide technical assistance in developing communal renewable energy projects

    The United Nations Development Program in Croatia, Heinrich Böll Foundation, Croatian Cooperatives Association and Green Action are jointly tendering a call for providing technical assistance for energy cooperatives in Croatia. Through this tender three local cooperatives/cooperatives in the process of registration will be chosen and will receive consulting assistance in developing communal renewable energy projects.

    $7 million COAST project concludes by sharing guidelines for "green jobs"

    Nature and people together– the final presentation of the results and experiences of the COAST project was held today in Zagreb. Project with the total value of $ 7,000,000 was implemented since 2007 in Dalmatia by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection, with financial support of the Global Environment Fund (GEF).

    Zadar school marks the arrival of spring with "solar sunflower"

    The Šimun Kožičić Benja Primary School in Zadar today became the first of ten schools in Croatia to launch a solar tracker – a solar-powered device that follows the the sun during the day like a sunflower – under a HRK 400,000 project funded by Hrvatski Telekom and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    Croatia's Low Emission Development Strategy

    Two-months-series of sectorial workshops under the project „ Supporting Croatia`s transition to low-emission development" has come to an end. Over 200 stakeholders were actively involved in the workshop process. According to a survey undertaken at the end of the workshops for each sector, more than 90% of participants were satisfied with the outcome of the workshop legitimising the bottom-up approach to Low Emission Development Strategy (LEDS) consultation.
