EC-UNDP Governance for Equitable Programme Strengthens Rule of Law and Civil Society Participation in China
After five year of close cooperation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), European Union and the government of China held a closing ceremony to mark the end of the Governance for Equitable (GED) programme. Since its inception in 2007, this groundbreaking project has been supporting China in its efforts to strengthen the rule of law and ensure more people can engage in the country’s law making processes.

Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 18-20 June, these events represent a significant advancement in UNDP’s strategic partnership with China to promote and share its development experiences over the past three decades with other developing countries.

UN launches a public-service film as Rio+20 opens, sharing the hopes of Chinese people for a sustainable future
As world leaders gather in Brazil to hold discussions on sustainable development at Rio+20, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), together with the UN Department of the Public Information launched today a public-service film entitled “2032: The Future We Want”. The five minute film contains powerful expressions of hope and inspiration from 32 people across China, whose messages are to be broadcast to state leaders and a global audience during the UN summit.

Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will conclude tomorrow her official visit to China (16-19 May). As China prepares to engage with the world at the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development in June, Miss Clark’s presence in China signals the importance she attaches to a country that has outlined plans to cut its carbon intensity by 40- 45 percent by 2020 and enhance its natural resources management.

25 April, Beijing — People across China were sent a powerful message today as UNDP National Goodwill Ambassador and leading actress Zhou Xun released a video message calling on the public to share their hopes for the future. Bangkok, 19 April 2012 – Asia-Pacific cartoons depicting the effects of climate change on children, Chinese cities, the Pacific Islands and mangrove forests won a regional contest sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of France. Cartoonists from Bangladesh,China, India, Lao PDR, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines have been recognized on this year’s Earth Day for their original artwork depicting climate change and human development in Asia-Pacific countries.

A joint press briefing was held today to announce the launch of a new 'Guide Handbook for the Maintenance of Environment Rights'. This new publication is part of a joint two-year initiative between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the All-China Environment Federation (ACEF), and is intended to encourage people to learn about and protect their legal right to a clean environment.

UNDP China Resident Representative Praises the Potential of New China Centre on Climate Change at Showcase Side Event during United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa
Ms. Renata Dessallien, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, joined Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Vice Chairman of National Development Reform Commission and Head of China Delegation to Durban, and Mr. Sun Lin, Director General, Department of Personnel for the NDRC, in discussing the creation of the National Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation Center (NCSC) at an official side event of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa. UNDP China views the recently established NCSC as a key avenue for joint collaborations in support of China's climate change efforts.

On the 66th Anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations (UN), a special commemorative event was held today organized the UN System in China and UN Association of China (UNA) to celebrate the achievements made in the promotion of peace and security, human rights and development. A high-level forum was held today in Beijing to mark the 19th International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, bringing together government leaders, policy makers, development practitioners, and other members of the international community, to exchange ideas on how best to accelerate and achieve sustainable poverty reduction in China and globally. More than 200 representatives from over 30 countries attended the 2011 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum, which was hosted by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of China and the UN System in China, and co-organised by International Poverty Reduction Centre in China (IPRCC) and UNDP China.

“Zoom-in on Poverty” global photo contest offers a glimpse of world poverty and calls for refocus and action
As the world observed the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, an award ceremony and exhibition were held today to mark the conclusion of the “Zoom-in on Poverty” Global Photo Contest. Organised by the Xinhua News Agency and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this competition has offered a timely insight into the status of world poverty through compelling photographs that portray some of the major causes, solutions and achievements made in poverty alleviation to date.

After sharing the 2008 Olympic Volunteer work experience with the 2010 Shanghai Expo, 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and Kazakhstan 2011 Asian Winter Games, Beijing has now completed the Olympic Volunteer legacy transfer journey by passing the torch to the next Olympic Games host city, London. A delegation composed by an expert of the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Expert Roster, a Beijing Volunteer Federation officer in charge of the Olympic Volunteer Legacy, China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges and UNV China Field Unit exchanged information with representatives of the Greater London Authority and the Executive Olympic Committee in an interactive session on 22nd September.
