    Emergency Kit Workshop encourages innovation, inspires youth to creativity

    Although the world did not end in 2012, dark times followed in the wake of natural and man-made disasters. Pain and destruction caused by the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 still linger today. Tyhoon Haiyan left more than 10 million people homeless; survivors fought and panicked over shortages in food, drinking water, and medicine. In the summer of this year, floods also swept the northeast of China, cutting through Sichuan province, Guangdong province, and Guangxi province. They flattened homes, bringing with them landslides and other secondary disasters.

    HNA Charity Night

    UNDP China entered a new public-private partnership with HNA Group at a charity event hosted by the company on 28 April in Haikou, Hainan Province. Deputy Country Director Patrick Haverman was in attendance as a part of a star-studded guest list that included notable figures in the charity and business sectors as well as well-known singers, actors and other public figures.

    2013 Human Development Report Launch

    UNDP China took part today in the worldwide launch of the 2013 Human Development Report. Produced by the UN, the report is a yearly stock-taking of global human development progress and contains a wealth of data, paramount among which is the Human Development Index (HDI) - a composite measurement of development that takes in more than economic indicators alone.

    China’s Roadmap for the Phase-out of Incandescent Lamps launched in Beijing

    On 4th November 2011, a press conference was held to formally launch a ‘Roadmap’ for the phasing out of incandescent lamps in China. As part of an ongoing initiative between UNDP and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to replace every light bulb in China with more energy efficient alternatives, this event was attended by Mr. Xie Ji, Deputy Director-General of the NDRC and Mr. Christophe Bahuet, UNDP Country Director. The adoption of five steps to remove incandescent lamps around China represents a significant step in China’s pursuit of a green economy and society.
