New e-course on elections launched

18 Dec 2012

The EC-UNDP Joint Task Force on Electoral Assistance (JTF) has launched a new e-learning course on technology and elections management on the JTF eLearning portal. The primary focus of the course can be summarized in the question: how can you determine if the technologies proposed for electoral management are sustainable and appropriate for the environment in which they are being considered?

This course deals in-depth with the issues and challenges of introducing technology into various elements of electoral administration. These elements range from the registration of voters to the management of results of the elections. The course also looks at the role - and challenges - of working with biometric technologies. This includes a discussion on some of the advantages and disadvantages of eVoting systems.

The course also addresses issues related to pros and cons of linking voter and civil registries, and introduces the topic of digital identity and its interface with voter registration.

“We believe the course will be of major benefit to electoral management bodies, electoral assistance providers and other electoral stakeholders  - including observers and other civil society groups” says the JTF.

The course should take between 4-6 hours to complete, and a certificate is available to all those that complete the course (following completion of the course exam modules).
