    The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon presented today a new report “A Million Voices: The World We Want”. The report summarizes the findings from public consultations and surveys that engaged more than 1.3 million people in all 193 UN Member States since August 2012 in an effort to identify priorities for the post-2015 development agenda that will succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

    EU and UN officials in Moldova distributed first aid leaflet in the streets of Chisinau

    Dressed in reflective vests, Nicola Harrington-Buhay, UN Resident Coordinator, and Wicher Slagter, Head of Political and Economic Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova, accompanied by representatives of the emergency services and Automobile Club of Moldova, distributed first aid leaflets to drivers at the crossroads of Dacia and Decebal boulevards, where the most fatal traffic accidents happen in Chisinau.

    Winners at the Millenium Film Festival

    The film “A World Not Ours”, from the Lebanese Director Mahdi Fleifel, was awarded the “Objectif d’Or”, the Grand Award of the 5th edition of the Millenium Film Festival, which successfully concluded in Brussels on 9 June 2013. Another film relating to the on-going Palestine conflict, “The Road to Silverstone”, received the “Objectif d’Argent”, the prize on the best message for development awarded by UNDP.

    Slum dwellers fight for their rights

    Bay of All Saints, directed by Annie Eastman, was shown yesterday at the Millenium MDGs documentary film festival. The film takes us to the heart of the Palafitas in Bahia (Brazil), a network of shacks built on stilts over a sea of water and garbage where impoverished families have lived for years.

    One of the films shown yesterday at the Millenium MDGs documentary film festival was Are you listening by Kamar Ahmad Simon. This is the story of little Rahul and his parents, a young family living on the coast of Bangladesh, whose house and belongings have been washed out in a tidal surge.

    Right to health, right to life – high-level meeting on HIV and human rights

    Human rights are essential for the response to HIV. "Right to health is right to life” - with this motto a high level meeting on HIV and Human Rights, organised by the EU and UNAIDS, took place in Brussels on 27-28 May. The meeting united representatives of the European Institutions, civil society, national governments of EU member states and countries of the EU neighborhood, as well as intergovernmental agencies involved in the global response to HIV.

    EU supported UNDP with over EUR 258 million in 2012

    In 2012, the EU contributed over EUR 258 million to UNDP activities across the world in the fields of Democratic Governance, Crisis Prevention and Recovery, and Environment. Over the period 2003-2012, the EU has granted almost EUR 3.3 billion in support of UNDP's interventions.

    2013 Human Development Report presented in Brussels

    The 2013 Human Development Report -"The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World" was officially presented in Brussels at a public round table event held on 23 April 2013. UNDP also presented the report on 24 April 2013 to a special joint meeting of the Committees on Development and Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of Belgium.
