New cross border cooperation between Montenegro & Croatia: Development of ICT for Outdoor Destinations
The European Union has awarded UNDP in February 2013 a new grant of over EUR 276,000 for strengthening cross-border tourism cooperation between Montenegro and Croatia. The project will stimulate local economy in the cross-border area through bringing together private and public sector in the field of tourism and leveraging new technologies to design user-centric tourism services.

The 2013 Human Development Report – "The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World" – will be launched on 14 March in Mexico City by President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark. A pre-launch “under embargo” press briefing of the report with Brussels-based press will be organized at UNDP, UN House (14 Rue Montoyer) on 12 March 2013, from 10:00 to 11:00 hours.

UNDP and EU jointly implemented in China project entitled “Governance for Equitable Development” (GED) during a period of five years (2007-2012) in China. This project, which recently came to an end, has led to improved access to justice and law-making process, and to a more favorable policy and legal environment for civil society organizations in China.

In 2011, the European Union ranked third in the listing of top-donors to UNDP’s total resources (includes both regular and other resources). When considering contributions to “other resources” which consist of earmarked contributions, the EU ranked second.

EU has awarded UNDP a new contract worth EUR 500,000 to continue to support the drafting and adoption of a new Constitution for Zimbabwe. As part of the agenda to support democratic transformation in the country, the UNDP-EU partnership has since 2009 assisted the Zimbabwean authorities to prepare and conduct a participatory, inclusive and transparent constitution making process.

In March 2012, over 230 electoral practitioners from over 60 countries came together in Mombasa, Kenya, to review and discuss the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in civil- and voter registration. The workshop was organized by UNDP and the EU, and the Joint EC-UNDP Task Force on Electoral Assistance has now released the final report of the workshop as a way to spread the information and lessons learned from the workshop.

With EU and UNDP support, Serbia’s Ministry of Interior organized an activity on 20 December 2012 to destroy 17,000 small arms and light weapons (SALW). This brings the total number of destroyed SALWs with EU-funding in Serbia to 45,285. EU and UNDP also supported the earlier destruction of 30,000 SALWs in Croatia.

The EU and UNDP have signed an agreement to support climate change mitigation and adaptation in Russia and Eastern Neighborhood countries. Through innovative pilot projects under the ‘Clima East’ programme, the hope is to demonstrate that ecosystems can have a strong, positive and cost-efficient effect on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
