    GoL/UNDP Sign USD$5.5million agreement with EU on Decentralization

    UNDP Resident Representative Antonio Vigilante, EU Head of Delegation to Liberia Attillio Pacifici and Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly sign the EU Contribution Agreement on Decentralization, which is central to governance reforms, peace building and reconciliation, as well as poverty reduction programs, is in line with Liberia’s National Policy on Decentralization and Local Governance and the Liberia Decentralization Implementation Plan (LDIP).

    Uganda starts process to build the National Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory System

    The new 3-year National Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory System Project is implemented by the Government of Uganda through the Climate Change Department in the Ministry of Water and Environment. It is part of the larger global LECB programme which is active in 25 countries and runs through to 2016. It is funded by the European Union, the German Government and UNDP to a tune of US$ 672,000.

UNDP works with companies from a variety of sectors, for example, water, energy, extractives, food and agriculture, consumer products, healthcare, finance and information technology. Private sector companies have supported UNDP projects directly with US$135 million between 2009 and 2013.

    MDG Report 2014 released

    The The Millennium Development Goals Report 2014 was launched today in New York by the Secretary-General. The report presents the latest assessment of global and regional progress towards the MDGs. The report shows that significant progress has been made across all goals and millions of lives have been saved. Yet, much more effort is needed in many areas. Continued progress towards the MDGs in the remaining year is essential in order to provide a solid foundation for the post-2015 development agenda.

    Voters in Malawi headed to the polls on Tuesday, 20 May 2014, fifty years after the country's independence. Over 7.4 million people were registered to vote, a 16 percent increase from the elections in 2009, and according to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), the majority were women.

    Joint initiative of UNDP and European cities and regions identifies cooperation opportunities with provinces and cities in Ecuador

    A delegation of representatives from the cities of Barcelona, Bilbao, Milan and the region of the Basque Country visited Ecuador to begin a relationship of innovative territorial cooperation with Ecuadorean provinces and cities.     UNDP calls for swift action on resilience to mitigate impact of crises and disasters

    On 28 April, the UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark attended the first EU High-level Forum on Resilience held in Brussels. Organized by the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Kristalina Georgieva, and the EU Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, the Forum aimed to facilitate a general dialogue on the resilience agenda and promote exchange of practices among key international actors involved in this field. Speaking at the event, she called for concerted action by all key stakeholders to mitigate the impact of crises and disasters.

    Guinea-Bissau votes in bid for stability

    Voters in Guinea-Bissau headed to the polls on Sunday 13 April, in a presidential and parliamentary election many hope will bring stability to the tiny West African nation. UNDP has has been supporting the election cycle in the country, managing a USD $6.6 million basket fund that includes financing from the EU and other donors.

    “Ash and Money” opens 2014 edition of the Millenium MDG Festival

    The opening ceremony of the sixth edition of the international Millenium documentary film festival, on 3 April, featured “Ash and Money”, an Estonian movie directed by Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper about the state of affairs in democracy, the media and grass-roots society. The movie is set in March 2010 when the popular “NO99 Theatre” announced that it would attempt to create a new successful and energetic super-party, “Unified Estonia”, through commonly used political communication tricks.
