UNDP-EU partnership: stories from the field
Here you will find stories that illustrate the partnership between UNDP and the Europan Union in the field. Given that our partnership covers over 100 countries and spans over a decade, these stories represent just a fraction of what we do together. They are however important as they show what difference our partnership makes in the lives of people. They show how we help empower people and support the building of resilient nations.
- Earlier this morning, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The earthquake was felt in northern India and as far as Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jamie McGoldrick, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Nepal, told The Guardian, “It’s difficult to say the extent of the damage. A full scale assessment is not yet complete, but this was a particularly large earthquake and a very shallow one so we are expecting high and significant damage, especially in Lamjung, Gorkha district [the epicentre of the earthquake]. There’s no doubt it’s a very big earthquake, but we are fortunate it was not in, or closer to Kathmandu, or the impact would have been catastrophic.” We standby the people of Nepal and UNDP in Nepal is currently working to support the government and relief partners to provide assistance. about an hour ago
- Women raising their hands in Tuvalu to sign up for our Cyclone Pam Cash recovery program. This Monday, the first 100 recipients of our Cash for Work programme started working in Port Vila in Vanuatu to clear storm debris. In the coming weeks, we will continue to shape and expand our early recovery plans.
