National Knowledge Workshop on the development of the National Entrepreneurship Strategy

Oct 29, 2013

I am pleased to be here to officially launch the workshop on the development of the National Entrepreneurship Strategy. Organized by UNIDO in collaboration with Ministry of Labor and Human Resources, the workshop will take stock of achievements and challenges, and will identify good practices, measures and mechanisms for incorporation into the National Entrepreneurship Strategy of Bhutan.

I would like to take this opportunity to also inform you that an online discussion was facilitated through the UN Solution Exchange Network to facilitate  wider participation in the initial discussion regarding entrepreneurship development.

As we gather here today to discuss and deliberate further on the formulation of National Entrepreneurship Strategy for Bhutan, I would like to urge everyone to take this opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on the role of entrepreneurship development in stimulating growth and development in Bhutan.

Let this be the starting point to lay the groundwork for a consensus-based approach for the development of the entrepreneurship strategy in your respective organization. I will be keen to follow discussions on opportunities in the creative entrepreneurship for community based enterprises.

Importance must also be placed on creating sufficient quality standards, sustainable job creation through entrepreneurship, focusing on self- employment options. I am sure the workshop will improve the understanding among key policy-makers, industry representatives, public institutions and other stakeholder organizations regarding effective strategies and measures to promote entrepreneurship and mainstream youth and gender issues into entrepreneurship development.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am hopeful that this workshop will provide valuable inputs for the development of a National Entrepreneurship Strategy for Bhutan's young and vibrant economy. I wish you every success in your deliberations  during the coming three days.

Thank you and Tashi Delek.
