UNDP Belize's efforts on supporting Democratic Governance are integrated in the Country Program Action Plan.
Part of the decentralization support has been placed on working with central government in the area of water governance in rural areas to improve efficiency and effectiveness of water distribution in the rural areas, with great success. This is now being followed up through efforts in the area of sanitation.
In 2011, the facilitation of gender empowerment initiatives, has been expedited, again working with national partners like the National Women’s Commission and WIN Belize.
Most recently, as part of the Central America Regional Security Initiative, UNDP Belize is seeking to establish a coordinated system to provide ‘mentoring & life-skills’, ‘training’ and ‘job placements’ for vulnerable youths in Southside Belize City through the “Southside Youth Success: Pathways to Employment for Young Men at-risk of Joining Gangs”.
These are some of the areas of focus in our support to national priorities on democratic governance.
