Gender, Human Rights and VC workshop held
Gopalgonj district administration with the cooperation of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project organized a day-long training workshop on Gender, Human Rights and Village Courts for the GoB official and other stakeholders on 20 August 2013 at Nazrul Public Library, Gopalgonj. The objective of the workshop was to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes of the GoB Officials along with other stakeholders on gender, discrimination against women, women empowerment and VC trial process for establishing a gender-friendly, responsive society and local justice system, and to broaden ownership among the women stakeholders, UPs and relevant government agencies at local level in the efforts of activating VCs.
Mr. Md. Khalilur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gopalgonj inaugurated the training workshop as Chief Guest while Md. Rafiqul Islam, ADC (General), Gopalgonj, Mr. Saiful Islam, ADC (Revenue), Gopalgonj and Mr. Mazedur Rahman, ADC (E&ICT) were present as Special Guests. Mr. Md. Rashedul Islam, DDLG and ADM of Gopalgonj presided over the inaugural session of the training workshop. Mr. Anamul Haque, Training Associate, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh, UNDP delivered the objective of the training workshop in the inaugural session. A total number of 53 participants from district and upazila administration and others participated in the event.
Following the inauguration Mr. Md. Rashedul Islam, DDLG, Gopalgonj and Mr. Anamul Haque, Training Associate, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh Project, UNDP conducted the business sessions of the workshop. At the end, the Deputy Commissioner of Gopalgonj offered the closing remarks mentioning, “If we really want to see a gender-friendly village court, we have to change our so called patriarchic mindset for working together.”
