    In a national policy dialogue held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center today the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its partners in Bangladesh highlighted the importance of treating climate change adaptations and disaster risk reduction through aligned national policies and spending.

    ​Early Recovery Cluster meeting held

    The Humanitarian Coordination Task Team (HCTT) with eight humanitarian clusters was established in January 2012 and jointly led by the Government and the UN Resident Coordinator’s office, as a sub-group of the LCG-DER. The Early Recovery Cluster is supported by the Early Recovery Facility funded by UNDP, SDC, and AusAID.

    Saving lives from landslides

    Over the last decade hundreds of people have died in landslides in Bangladesh, last year alone over 100 people perished in what could have been preventable tragedies. Ms. Anwara, Mr. Shahidullah and 57 other landslide volunteers around Bangladesh have taken it up upon themselves to reduce that number to zero and as it so often happens their work began in their own backyard.

    People across the country are enduring the severest cold wave in the last 45 years and may experience two more chilly spells in the current month. The mercury hit 45 year low on 10th Jan 2013, with the minimum temperature recorded at 3 degrees Celsius in Saidpur.
