Democratic Governance

  • Youth Participation in Governance

    The project aims to increase opportunities for young leaders to participate in decision making and policy formulation in Azerbaijan. It will deliver trainings in leadership, web journalism, speech making,organize policy debates and promote youth in civil service.

  • Establishing State Register of Population

    Main goal of the project is to establish a single, reliable and comprehensive database on the population of Azerbaijan. The database will ease the registration of the civil status acts and issuance of certificates and national citizens documents.

  • South Caucasus Integrated Border Management

    Project aims to enhance strategic border management capacities; develop and establish IBM-related procedures and operations including Border Check Points (BCPs); assess the benefits of IBM approach through pilot activities; provide technical assistance to pilot BCPs and other IBM-related units.

  • Support to State Social Protection Fund

    The Project aims to increase the managerial and technological capacity of SSPF, improve efficiency of the social insurance and pension provision systems in Azerbaijan through automation of main operational processes and data exchange procedures and development of efficient communication between SSPF headquarters and local and regional branches.

  • Modernization of customs services

    Project goal is to support the modernization of the customs service in Azerbaijan through infrastructure development, automation of the processes, and personnel training. The project facilitates the establishment of the Target Centre at the Head Department of Air Transport; use of new technologies and operation management by the customs personnel; and application of best practices in the target definition field.

  • Internet Governance Forum 2012

    The main project goals are establishment of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2012 Secretariat with the relevant capacity to oversee all organizational issues and successful management of the IGF 2012 in Baku.

  • Good Governance through Civil Service Reform

    The project goal is to strengthen the human resources capacity of the Civil Service Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and develop the competence of civil servants at central and local levels for implementation of the new performance appraisal system and code of ethics.

  • Capacity Building for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

    Project aims to increase the efficiency and transparency of MFA operations through the application of ICT tools and support to the roll-out of new communication systems to Azerbaijan’s embassies.

Sustainable Development

  • Mobilizing Youth for Action in Preparation for Rio+20

    The project aims to mobilize Azerbaijani youth for environmental action and increase awareness of decision-makers on the issues in focus of the Rio+20 Summit in 2012.

  • Third National Communication on Climate Change

    The project supports the Government of Azerbaijan in preparation of its third national report under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The report will contain an update on greenhouse gas inventory in the country, assessment of the country's vulnerability to climate change and an account of ongoing and planned adaptation and mitigation measures to minimize the impact of climate change.

  • Teaching Human Development Course

    This project introduces a human development course in the universities of Azerbaijan. It seeks to broaden perspective of young people on developmental issues.

  • Promoting Development of Renewable Energy

    The project aims to promote the development of sustainable energy sources in Azerbaijan. The project helps the newly created State Company on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources to overcome barriers to development of sustainable energy by improving legislation, strengthening economic viability and building staff capacity.

  • Improving Solid Waste Management

    The goal of the project was to enhance the management of the municipal solid wastes in the country. The project helps to revise legislation, define waste generation capacity, create a data-bank on solid wastes, and launch a small-scale pilot project on wastes recycling.

  • Support to UN Global Compact Local Network

    The project aims to increase the social responsibility of business community in Azerbaijan by institutionalizing the local network of Global Compact in Azerbaijan, expanding its membership and organizing information-dissemination campaigns on the UN Global Compact.

  • Promoting Employment and Innovation

    In partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and SYSLAB, a Norwegian NGO, the project has helped to establish Baku Training Center for the unemployed. It has introduced an innovative employment scheme which increases people's employability and supports them in proactive job search.

  • Improving Management of Marine Ecosystems

    The goal of this one-year initiative is to prepare, a full-fledged project on improving the management of protected areas represented by marine ecosystems in Azerbaijan. The project will particularly focus on enhancing the management of the globally important Ghizilagaj nature reserve located on the Caspian coast.

  • Promoting Development of Tourism Sector

    Project goal is to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to foster development of the tourism sector.

Crisis Prevention and Recovery

  • Increasing Resilience to Climate Change

    This project aims to reduce vulnerability of the mountainous communities of the Greater Caucasus to water stress and flood hazards by improving the water and flood management.

  • Building Capacities for Mine Action

    The goal of the project is to create a strong national mine action capacity for planning, coordinating and managing all mine and unexploded ordinance (UXO) related activities in currently unoccupied areas and enable it to expand to areas yet to be liberated. Project facilitates the continued mine/UXO clearance in more time- and cost-effective manner; the conduct of trainings and activities for mine risk education (MRE); the implementation of initiatives on Mine Survivors Assistance; and the promotion of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action to become the International Centre for Mine Action.

Women's Empowerment

  • Empowering Rural Women

    The aim of this project is to support the activities of the State Committee for Family,Women and Children's Affairs (SCFWCA) in their efforts to expand women’s participation in the economic and community life, with a focus on rural areas. The project also builds the capacities of the SCFWCA staff in producing qualitative data for evidence-based policy formulation.

  • Support to Gender Research

    UNDP, in partnership with Leader Women Public Union, has established and supports a Gender Study and Research Centre at the State Pedagogical University. The Centre aims to promote gender sensitive approaches and attitudes among its graduates and through them diffuse knowledge in schools. The project has also has teamed up with IOM to conduct a survey on the situation of migrants’ spouses staying behind in Azerbaijan.
