Afghanistan Millennium Development Goals Report 2012

Afghanistan Millennium Development Goals Report 2012

April 1, 2014

Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has recently come up with its fourth MDGs Report, 2012. The report traces progress made with respect to nine MDGs in Afghanistan. Though, the targets for MDGs in Afghanistan run through 2020 as Afghanistan adopted MDGs late, this report is very important in the light of global debate on post 2015 when the rest of the world would be moving to new development framework of Sustainable Development Goals agenda, post 2015.

As per the Afghanistan MDGs report, progress in education and health by and large has been impressive, progress has been moderate within gender parity, environmental sustainability and cooperation for development is prospective and may be difficult to achieve on time but the report points out that progress is significantly lagging in reducing poverty, women’s political participation and literacy, as well as sustainable access to safe drinking water, sanitation and resource allocation to MDGs sectors.
