Community Water Initiative- The Community Water Initiative is inspired by the success of UNDP’s small grants programmes such as UNDP/GEF grant mechanisms and includes their proven effective features. In addition to this, the Community Water Initiative will operate in close partnership with international NGO’s that have a demonstrated track record of achievement in water supply and sanitation. In the 2003/2004 pilot year, six countries will have programmes to support activities in four focal areas:
1. Water supply for communities and households activities
2. Household sanitation
3. Local watershed management
4. Innovative financing and management structures
