Lu, Xianfu (China)

Technical Advisor: Climate Change Adaptation (NCSP)

Xianfu Lu is a Technical Advisor, working on the National Communications Support Programme at UNDP-GEF. Her primary responsibility is to provide technical and policy support on issues related to climate change vulnerability and adaptation to over one hundred and thirty Parties not included in Annex I to the UN Framework on Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in preparing their National Communications (NCs). NC is a major national process for the production of knowledge and information, and for the strengthening of institutional capacity to facilitate the implementation of the UNFCCC, and the integration of climate change concern into national/sectoral development planning

Prior to joining UNDP, Xianfu Lu worked at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (UK) as a senior research associate, where she worked as a mentor for twenty-four Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded projects in developing countries on the development and application of climate scenarios for vulnerability and adaptation assessments. She co-ordinated a major review of key vulnerabilities and adaptation frameworks in the member states of the European Environment Agency (EEA). Further, she made substantial contributions to the production of the UK Climate Impacts Programme’s UKCIP02 national climate scenarios, which have been used by a wide range of communities in the UK for adaptation planning.

Xianfu Lu holds PhD in Environmental Science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is a LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) Fellow and a Co-ordinating Lead Author (CLA) for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4).
