UNDP ADAPTATION TEAM
Tom started his career with UNDP in Samoa in 1996 as Programme Officer, with a portfolio that included the management of UNDP’s programs in the Cook Islands and Niue. In 1999 he became Head of the Environment Unit, with full responsibility for a large number on Pacific national and regional environment and natural resource management programs.
In 2003, he took up an assignment as Portfolio Manager for the Pacific in 2003, where he supported the conceptualization, development and implementation of UNDP-GEF Biodiversity, Climate Change, International Waters, Persistent Organic Pollutants and Capacity Development projects in the region.
Since September 2004, Tom has been working as a Capacity Development Specialist with UNDP-GEF in New York, where his main responsibilities are to provide overall guidance and assistance to Governments, COs and RCUs for designing medium-size capacity development projects under the new GEF funding window.
Tom is a geographer and development specialist with experience in a broad range of environment and development issues, research, consulting and journalism. He holds postgraduate degrees in geography, development studies and economies from the University of Roskilde (Denmark), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Durham University (UK) and Bern University (Switzerland).
