UNDP ADAPTATION TEAM
Since 2005, Pradeep has worked with UNDP to manage and develop climate change adaptation projects funded through the GEF. He has led and contributed towards the development of adaptation projects in several countries in East and Southern Africa, West Africa as well as some global projects. He currently provides technical advice in support of the development of UNDP-GEF’s Climate Change Adaptation Portfolio. He also serves as the interim- Regional Technical Advisor for Climate Change Adaptation at UNDP-GEF Regional Coordinating Unit in Pretoria. He is the current focal point on the UNDP-UNEP partnership on adaptation as well as UNDP-GEF’s NAPA follow-up projects.
Prior to working with UNDP, Pradeep carried out research on estimating the economic costs of climate change impacts, focusing on the agriculture sector in Africa and on the linkages between climate change, agricultural productivity and rural income. His research findings have been published in journals such as World Bank Economic Review, Climatic Change and World Bank Policy Research Series. He has worked previously with the World Bank, International Food Policy Research Institute, UNDP's Public Private Partnership Programme, as well as the Munasinghe Institute of Development (Sri Lanka).
Pradeep is a Sri Lankan national. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Economics (Yale University, 2006), Masters in Environmental Economics (Yale University, (2001), M.Phil in Environment and Development (Cambridge University, 1995) and Bachelors degree (with Honours) in Economics from University of Aberdeen (1994).
