Adaptation to Climate Change

Climate change poses great challenges to society. The effects of climate change will constrain the ability of developing countries to reach their sustainable development objectives under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As the UNDP mission includes safeguarding the MDGs, its Strategic Plan makes a commitment to integrating adaptation to climate change in all UNDP work.
UNDP is uniquely positioned to help developing countries better cope with climate change by supporting adaptation efforts in three ways:
  1. Integrating climate change risks into UN programming;
  2. Integrating climate change risks into national development policies, plans and strategies; and
  3. Identifying financing for adaptation initiatives.
